SCOUTS BSA LEADERS (not Cub Scouts)
The organization "Friends of Mill Ridge Park" (FMRP) is planning a "Family Camping Day" on September 11 at the park (12965 Old Hickory Blvd, Antioch, Tennessee) to teach families about camping. The Troops of the District have been offered the opportunity to be involved in presenting campsite and camping skills at this event. To facilitate Troop involvement, we are being presented with the unique opportunity to have an overnight campout at the Park on Friday night, September 10. FMRP is offering to a Movie in the Park night that evening showing "Follow Me Boys" which will be open to the public. BEST OF ALL, THIS IS ALL FREE. With the permission of the District Key 3, I will be forming a committee for the Scouting side of this event and am seeking volunteers to help with
Campsite assignment (Commissioner)
Program Coordinator - to coordinate what Troop will be showing what skills
Communications
District Executive - got to keep the business part of scouting happy
The desired demonstrations include
"how to camp" exhibits staged around campsite and hosted and demonstrated by campers/scouts for visitors
tent
fire
water
wildlife
safety
wayfinding
food
flag folding / presentation
I will be developing a "leader guide" for this event which is a bit of a mashup between a camporee and a ScoutExpo
Leaders, please take this camping opportunity to your PLC and ask them to consider supporting camping in their park and showing Scouting in their community.
Please let me know as soon as possible so that I can gauge interest and communicate to FMRP the commitment of the Troops.
